Quite an unusual post? Yes you are probably right!
I got this car given to me from my brother about 8 months
ago, here is the story.
In March 2011 we bought a 2002 Skoda Fabia 5 door in silver.
We paid £1,000 for this car and was a very sound reliable car, apart from a few
problems we had, one problem we had was the terrible leak that we got coming in
from the back doors. I goggled the problem and apparently it was a very common
Skoda fault, so I read up on how to fix it and soon had it sorted out by taking
the rear door cards of the frame and using a thick black sealant around the
seal then put the door card back on.
Then the front window motors started going, first the driver's
window stopped working, then the passenger window started to fail. This was
highly annoying as it was summer time when this happened so the car was like
driving an oven!
Then I started to have problems with the car loosing water,
this was a real pain in the rear as I had to continuously top the car up with
water all the time. I did get this repaired as the radiator needed replacing at
the cost of £210, Yikes!
Anyway I started to get really annoyed about the windows not
working as it was a nightmare to drive because of the heat and the car did not
have air conditioning, so it had to go but in the meantime my brother came to
the rescue with his no longer needed 1992 Ford Escort as he had just been given
a 2008 Mini one from our father.
My first impression of the car was surprisingly a very good
one, I mean you could open the windows, that was a huge plus point! The car
also seemed to be quite a good car really. I had done just short of 60,000
miles and everything seemed to be quite tight and sturdy, the Skoda had 105,000
miles and started to show.
My wife Kayleigh absolutely hates the car! Never has she
detested anything as much as this! I totally understand why I mean it looks
really shit, Its white and from the old days, my wife would have been 4 years
old when this car was brand new! It has a musty smell inside as you would
expect from a car this old, but it's a good runner so it has to stay, we are too
poor to buy anything else yet.
I have had the car quite a few months now and I have only
had a couple of problems with it, the first was the ignition kept turning
itself on without the keys in it! So I took it to my trusty mechanic Dave who
repaired it in no time and told me it was because water was coming inside the
car by the fuse box and was causing a short in the electrics. Then a few weeks
ago the lights stopped working so it was straight off to the mechanics again
who said it was the switch that turns the lights on that was at fault. He said
he tried to get hold of a new switch but they don't make the parts anymore as
the car is 20 years old, he tried some scrap yards but had the same problem, no
one had the part in. I thought this would have been the end of the road for the
escort but Dave managed to take the switch apart and rebuilt it, amazing!
I am still amazed how the car is still going strong after
all these years on the road but it has and even though my wife hates the car, I
quite like it and hope it will last for many years to come yet.
Sorry about the post being a bit boring, but I didn't know
what to write about and thought why not write about the car and put a couple of
pictures on for all to see. Please become a member of my blog I would love to
know if there are people out there who like what they see. Thanks again for
reading and feel free to leave a comment.
